Position Summary

Based out of either Halifax or New Glasgow, NS, the Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing and preparing external financial reports including monthly, quarterly, and ad hoc financial statements, management reports, working papers, etc.  Additional duties include:

  • Prepares and reviews monthly/quarterly financial statements, management reports and working papers in support of quarterly and annual regulatory filings and annual audit.
  • Works collaboratively with Manager, External Reporting to ensure accounting and reporting standards are maintained at a high standard and respected by all team members, while staying up to date on any new IFRS accounting standards that impact Crombie.
  • Prepares Purchase Price Allocations and collaborates with the Corporate Development team to ensure acquisitions and dispositions are recorded properly.
  • Assists in process improvement initiatives and maintaining an effective system of internal control.
  • Reviews and approves journal entries.
  • Develops and delivers internal management reports to Senior Leadership, providing critical insights for decision making.
  • Maintains excellent working relationships with operational field staff and other corporate departments.
  • Prepares and reviews Statistic Canada Surveys and prepares Impairment analysis.
  • Prepares annual income tax returns and supporting working papers, including separate entity financial statements.
  • Prepares working papers and reviews in support of annual audit.
  • Engages across all levels of the organization to create and promote a safe and respectful work environment.
  • Other special projects and ad hoc tasks as assigned.

 

The profile we are looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field
  • At least five years’ experience in an accounting role or related position
  • Experience in real estate as well as a CPA designation or working towards a designation are considered assets
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize competing tasks
  • Professionalism and superior communication skills
  • People leadership
  • The ability to build and strengthen relationships both internally and externally are required
