Position Summary
Based in Canada (Flexible), the Senior Estimator contributes to Crombie REIT’s success by providing estimating support to the Leasing, Development, and Design & Construction teams to ensure the successful delivery of retail, office, industrial, and residential construction projects across the organization. Additional duties of the Senior Estimator include but are not limited to:
- Supports the Estimating team in the implementation of the construction and development strategy.
- Analyzes drawings, specifications, bids, quotations, market trend reports, and other documentation to prepare probable time, cost, materials, and labour estimates.
- Reviews internal tender results against the project budget and provides feedback to the project team on tender vs budget comparisons. Supports the project team with change order reviews when needed.
- Ensures that all budgets and estimates are accurate and well researched based on current and historical information, reflect current trends in the market, and draw from a variety of sources.
- Keeps up to date with current market conditions and regional pricing data.
- Keeps abreast of trends within the market relative to construction materials and construction processes. Visits job sites to identify issues and concerns and to better understand field means and methods.
- Liaises and openly communicates with engineers, contractors, consultants and other relevant parties as needed to create accurate estimates.
- Liaises and openly communicates with internal Crombie departments as required; coordinates Tenant requirements with Operations and Leasing departments and assists in the update of scope of work documents accompanying Lease Documents.
- Assists the project team in the creation of their cost forecasts as needed.
- Follows cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures.
- Supports the estimating team with annual reporting to outline the estimating team’s workload and results and coordinates with third party Quantity Surveyors when needed.
- Assists with project schedule development.
- Cultivates strong working relationships internally across all departments as building relationships with external partners and stakeholders.
- Engages across all levels of the organization to create and promote a safe and respectful work environment.
- Other special projects and tasks as assigned.
The profile we are looking for
- Minimum of five years’ experience of construction industry-related experience in estimating and/or cost consulting.
- Degree or Diploma in Architectural Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, Building Science, Quantity Surveying, or experience in a related field.
- CEC, PQS, MRICS, and/or Cost Engineers designation is considered a strong asset.
- Gold Seal certification is considered a strong asset.
- Working knowledge of On Centre software (On-Screen Take-Off), RS Means Online, Bluebeam, and Excel considered a strong asset.
- General Contracting / tendering experience is considered a strong asset.
- Knowledge of both divisional and elemental cost budgeting formats is considered a strong asset.
- Design Build construction knowledge and experience is considered a strong asset. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment with stakeholders in all regions of the country.
- Strong organizational skills and extreme attention to detail.
- Demonstrated professionalism and superior communication skills both verbally and written.
